The Butterfly Museum

Some friends invited us along for a trip to the Butterfly Museum at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.  We've never been to the Museum of Natural Science and this was a nice starter trip for us.  After the great experience we had at the Butterfly Museum, we're super excited to return later this Summer and hit more exhibits.

The butterfly museum was a true museum with exhibits of all kinds of unique insects to view. The was even an exhibit with roaches that were the size of my hand which I hope I never encounter on this side of the glass.

Next you enter a giant solarium thats lush and green and swarming with literally 100's of butterflies.

Be very still and a butterfly might land on you!

The kids spent the rest of our time in solarium exploring its water falls and visiting with one very healthy iguana.

Next we found yourselves in an indoor garden specially designed for kid-sized pollination.  Busy little bees!

Where else can you catch a ride on a giant caterpillar and chase projection butterflies!

After leaving the museum, we just walked across the street for a nice picnic at Herman Park.  We attracted a visitor, which the kids were more than happy to share their lunch with.  I'm pretty sure the squirrel ate a larger portion than any of the kids!

It was a great day and we're already ready for a repeat!  Hot Texas summer meets cool museum visits!
