Near the end of September, on one of our last sunny days before the weather turned, a friend and I visited Holyrood Palace which is the Queen’s residence here in Scotland. We caught the bus to Princes Street, where we cut through Prince Street Gardens on our way to the Royal Mile. The Scott Monument was looking especially grand against the cloudless blue sky.
Headed down the Royal Mile to Holyrood Palace vs up to Edinburgh Castle.
Unfortunately, no photography was allowed inside the palace, but if you’ve ever watched any episode of The Crown, then suffice to say that it’s exactly as you would have pictured it with lots of tapestries, large portraits, and stiff sitting arm chairs. The grounds and gardens were lovely though. However, the specific purpose of the visit was to see the wedding attire of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, which was in exhibition at the palace. Meghans dress was beautiful to see up close! So simple, but yet so very classy, with Prince Harry’s formal wear being much more embellished due to his rank. The ring bearer and flower girls outfits were also on display. It is astounding to glimpse into this monarchy and its culture.
