Wrapping up 4th Grade

EDIT:  By the time this post gets published I will be far behind on updates, we will have made yet another move, and life in general will have turned upside down and then right-side up.  Due to my inability to post while the things were fresh in my mind and the fact that a lot has happened between then and now, the posts that follow will likely be heavy on pictures and light on words.

In May we took our final class trip to a recreation of a First Nations village (or some would say Native Americans, but that only applies if you live in America.  First Nations is the Canadian descriptor), complete with defensive wall fort and longhouses.  There was a lot of running through the woods in the rain, but fun was had by all none the less.  We heard stories about the First Nations history, how they lived in long houses, and we got to view First Nations crafts and weapons

The class was impressed that Brenna was the only kid (girl or boy) to exhibit enough hand-eye coordination to complete the stick challenge that the local tribe used to determined when young children were prepared to be a part of the hunt.  The game requires balance, quick action, and accuracy to catch an increasing number of sticks before they hit the ground.

We also got to help out with a Flat Stanley project for a friend back in Louisiana.  He spent a day with our class, visited the shores of Lake Huron, saw the Blue Water Bridge crossing between the United States and Canada, and finally what's more Canadian than a trip to Tim Horton's!

We finished off our school year with the Track and Field District Meet in Windsor.  After qualifying in our school's competition, Brenna moved on the district meet in the 100 meter and 200 meter races, ball throw, standing long jump, and girls relay.  It was a gorgeous day with clear blue skies and cool temperatures.  After a long day of competing, Brenna placed 2nd in standing long jump and 2nd in the girls relay.
