At 7 years old Brenna has a sweet nature and is very outgoing. She's not shy and I would say she handled the adjustment to our new home and surroundings better than any of us. She loves making friends! She's smart and sharp and excels at school! Sometimes I worry that her need to build things from scraps of paper and cardboard, combined with her knack for mathematics (which she proclaims as her favorite subject) will lead her to be an engineer. I have mixed feelings about that! She's stubborn and strong willed which will serve her well in some aspects of life but it has already lead to frustrations in others. She can't be still or quiet for more than 3 minutes. It's simply impossible! The energy just bursts out of her. She's managed to harness some of this energy through sports. She loves soccer, basketball, and tennis. She's proven herself to be a strong athlete and competitor! She's amazingly beautiful with a perfect complexion, dark brown eyes, and an infectious smile. She has gorgeous thick dark brown hair which is always in tangles and pulled back in a pony tail, because she refuses to waste any time fixing it. She never worries about what to wear and only ever grabs the shorts and t-shirt at the top of the stack. Watching her grow and develop physically, emotionally, and spiritually has been a blessed journey! Another year rolls by and I can't wait to see what God has planned for her future.
This year there was no hesitation in the selection of her theme. She was set on a Frozen birthday. That was a relief for me, since I knew I could purchase most of the decorations, rather than make them. One exception is the invitations. Every year I've made Brenna's birthday invitations. As she got older, she enjoyed picking out her background. This year was no different. After lots of looking, this was what she picked and I added the details.
This year we were excited at the idea of an outdoor birthday party! We've never had an outdoor party, because summers in Texas are brutal and we've never had a pool. This year we decided to have her party at an area splash pad. Rather than worrying about the heat, I worried a little bit about the cold. It's not cold here by any means, but its not hot either. Most of our July mornings started off in the low sixties and warmed up to the mid-seventies. Brenna's party was scheduled for 10 AM and I hoped that it wouldn't be too cool for the kids to enjoy the splash pad. It was overcast that day and cooler than I would have liked it, but once the kids got together there was no worries about how cool it was. They were too busy having fun to notice the weather. We've had maybe two days all summer that broke into the mid-eighties. While I spent most of May and June whining about the wait for summer, July has been glorious! It's not a Texas Summer, obviously, but those are too hot anyway. The weather is perfect! Not too hot or too cold. Sometimes I do worry about how I will adapt to the winters here, but right now, I'd gladly endure some snow for this fantastic weather.

Brenna was also excited at the idea of having a piñata! She's always wanted one, but never had one. We've always had indoor parties and there was never a safe place to have a piñata. The kids loved it! Everyone got one pass with the blind fold and then a second pass without it. Since the piñata still remained unopened, the kids each grabbed a string and pulled! It was a mad bash for candy and trinkets as the kids filled their piñata bags!
Finally, we moved the fun to the party room at the splash pad and the kids enjoyed pizza and cupcakes. Brenna opened her gifts and passed out favors. The kids played until the very end.
Brenna had a fantastic birthday and we are so blessed to have such wonderful new friends that have welcomed us and taken us in.
