Spirit Week

A few weeks back we had what I would call Spirit Week.  Each day had a fun theme.  Monday was Twin Day and Brenna dressed like one of her new buddies.  Tuesday was PJ day and Wednesday was Book Character Day where you dress up like your favorite character.  Brenna instantly knew that she wanted to be Stella Starkeeper!  Stella Starkeeper is a main character in a new favorite book series called Lucky Stars.  Two months ago, while Jacob and I were in Canada for the house hunting trip, we missed out on the Spring Book Fair at school.  Mawmaw and Pawpaw were taking care of Brenna while we were gone.  Brenna was especially excited to have them come to "A Grand Affair" which is a special book fair shopping event for Grandparents.  Mawmaw and Brenna picked out a new book from the Lucky Stars series and Brenna has been in love with it ever since.  I especially like the books because they focus on helping others with just enough magic and make-believe to make things interesting and fun!  Stella Starkeeper is a Lucky Star that uses magic to grant wishes to those in need.  So, based on a few black and white sketches and the written description we put together a Stella Starkeeper costume complete with star crown and wand!

Brenna loved it!  Unfortunately, none of her friends at school knew who was!  Luckily she took along one of her books to share and now her friends want to read the books too!

Thursday of Spirit Week was Color Day.  Every student in the entire school was assigned one of six colors.  The color teams consisted of kids Grade 1st - 8th.  It was fun to see all the kids working together and the day was spent in friendly competitions!

Finally, Friday ended the week with a big event called Grandfriends Day.  In Texas, Grandparents Day was nothing more than having your grandparents in for lunch at the cafeteria.  Here its a very big deal. Grandparents are invited into the classroom to visit for about an hour.  The grandparents usually come bearing gifts of candy and chocolate for the kids.  Next everyone moves to the gym for an hour and a half presentation from each grade level.  After the presentation, lunch is served by the kids.  It's a wonderful event.  Unfortunately, Brenna's grandparents couldn't attend.  I was a little worried that Brenna may feel left out, but the school was very accommodating and provided us with substitute grandfriends!  An elderly couple whose children had graduated from Sarnia Christian School came and visited with Brenna and even had a gigantic chocolate lollipop for her.  They talked with her about where she was from and how she liked Canada so far.

During the presentation Brenna's class played the hand bells and Brenna is a part of the Sarnia Christian Choir who also performed.  Since I was volunteering to help out in the kitchen with the lunch, I was able to watch and record most of the performance!

Brenna is the second from the left in the white shirt on the front row.  She rings the first bell!  You hear "I Surrender All", "Jesus Loves Me", and I'm still not sure what the last song was!

Brenna is the white shirt on the right front row.  My video cut out on Kalinka, which was disappointing because it was a fun song.

It was a great week at school for Brenna and I was very proud of all the new things that Canada has already introduced her to!
