Once again this year, we took our school holiday and got up early to go to the Fort Bend County Fair Parade. We met friends, all loaded into the car, and traveled to Richmond in search of the perfect parade viewing spot (since last years spot was a little prickly)! We found a great shady spot, with a grassy slope underneath a big oak tree, just a mile down from the start of the parade. Our experience last year reminded us that the parade is long! Our kids played, met a few characters, got some candy, and enjoyed dancing and clapping to the bands.
Then about an hour and a half into it things started to slow down. The parade came to a complete halt for nearly 10 minutes. The kids got restless. Some of the crowd around us began to leave and our kids started to complain. They devised a plan among themselves to return to the house and play together. Since we started so early in the morning, the weather was still manageable and we decided to skip out early and let kids have fun, because the parade didn't seem to be holding their attention. It was another fun outing and a good 2-year run on the fair parade for us, but next year I think we'll take our school holiday and sleep in late!
