Mom and Me Day

I was inspired by a friend who dedicated a entire week to her daughter while her youngest son was away at camp.  While every day is a Mom and Me day at our house since Brenna's an only child, I realized that we've never had a day to do just what she wanted, at her pace.  Usually its a comprise of my errands backed up with some kind of kid friendly fun that's convenient to wherever we are.  Also, Brenna's reached an age where her thoughts of fun usually consist of friends and Mom is the method of transportation.  So I thought it would be nice to have a day just to ourselves to enjoy some things that she likes.

We started our day bright and early by summer standards.  Brenna picked out her new favorite dress to wear and we made our way to Town Center in Sugar Land.  Town Center is a very nice shopping and entertainment area centered around the Sugar Land Court House.  The area is beautiful with fountains and brick paved streets that follow along fun shops and restaurants.

Our first stop of the day was Sweet and Sassy for manicures and pedicures.  This was her first time and she thought the process was fun.  Her favorite part was picking out her polish colors.  Her manicurist was alittle surprised to find she picked out 8 different shades of pink and purple!  It took some time but we finally narrowed it down to one pink and one purple with a glittery top coat!

Next we moved over to the couches for our pedicure.  Brenna loved all the glitter lotion they used on her arms and legs.  She was shimmering with little stars and hearts.  She thought the foot wash was wonderful and leaned back and said "This is so relaxing!"  Also, she was thrilled to find out that her pedicure comes with her very own toe ring!

Next we headed over to the salon for a feather lock hair extension.  This is a "hip" thing with the kids and it elevated her to a whole new popularity status at the pool this week with several admirers!  She picked out a hot pink feather and why not add alittle glitter to her hair since she was glittery everywhere else!

As we were browsing the store, what did she find, but none other than her My Little Pony pals!  Needless to say we left with Apple Jack as a parting gift to remember our fun that morning.

Next we made a our way to the fountain in front of City Hall.  I was disappointed to find that the fountain was down for repairs.  Parts were empty and drained.  However, it turns out that empty fountains are fun too.  Brenna loved crossing the water into the empty pools and running along the center borders that would normally have water showers across them.

After the fun in the fountain, we crossed the street to Lasagna house for a pizza lunch.  To pass the time while we waited for our lunch, we colored our entire table cloth with colorful rainbows, butterflies, and bows.  The waitress complimented Brenna and told her it was the most beautiful drawing she'd seem in months of working there!

For dessert we headed over to Ben & Jerry's for ice cream.  Brenna spent alot of time browsing the flavors only to end up with her tried and true vanilla.  We moved outside to a shady spot to enjoy our treats.

Unfortunately, she didn't make it to the end of her treat before this happened!

I offered to replace her ice cream, but she decided she was full and ready to move on to painting!  We went to Pinot's Palette to create our masterpieces.  Brenna inspected all the paintings and to my surprise she picked a fish bowl to paint.  After a few color changes (blue and brown were replaced with pink and green) we got started.

Here's how they turned out!

As we headed back to the car with our art work in tow, we decided to make one last stop at The Sweet Boutique for macaroons and cookies.

It was a such a great day and fun for me and her!  I wish I had done this sooner.  Now that I know how much we both enjoyed it I hope to make it a summer tradition.  Hopefully, we can take some time each year just before her birthday.
