"12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus" Philippians 3:12-14.
Each week we used race car terminology to teach the kids about the "race of life" and to press toward the mark for the prize "Christ Jesus". After each lesson the kids got the opportunity to build their own race cars. We started with wood blocks. The kids got to pick their own race car pattern. They had to cut the pattern out, tape it to their wood block, and trace it so that the blocks could be cut to match their pattern.
Next we sanded, and sanded, and sanded some more. Surprisingly, this never got old for the kids. Our kindergarteners would sand so hard and fast that they would produce clouds of saw dust!
Once everything was nice and smooth, we started painting and decorating. Oh the cars they created! Brenna's car is the one on the back row with the feathers. She said, and I quote "The feathers will catch the wind and make it go faster!" Since I didn't want to explain aerodynamics to a kindergartner, we just went with it!
Finally, it was time for the big race! Luckily, one of the men in our church is a derby car hobbyist and happen to have an official soap box race car track!
All the cars had to be registered, weighed in, and named. Brenna named her car Jewel Driver for all the pink jewels we glued on! The cars had to be at least 3 ounces, but no more than 5 ounces. Adjustments had to be made to some cars. Small weights were added beneath the car for some and others were disappointed to have to remove decorative pieces to get in under the 5 ounces. One boy was especially upset about removing his plastic lizard!

Weighing in!
Our kinders getting registered!
Race Time! Brenna raced her friend Tyler. It wasn't even close. She smoked him!
We did have some really close races!
Brenna and Cortlyn! These two have been in Sunday School together since 2 years old.
All our kids!
The kids had a great time! I'm so thankful for Brenna to have great Christian learning experiences like these!
