Our fall season has kicked off with pumpkin patches, festivals, and candy collecting. We haven't hit Halloween yet, but its just around the corner. This year we decided to do something new of us. Instead of the usual pumpkin painting, we decided to carve a pumpkin. We ventured over to one of the local churches pumpkin patches on opening weekend. Brenna searched until she found the perfect pumpkin!

After our pumpkin adventure we capped off the day with ice-cream!
The next day after school we carved our pumpkin. Brenna picked out the pattern, a cat atop a pumpkin. Jacob opened it up and started cleaning out the pumpkin. Brenna got one handful of mush and she was done! "Yuck! I don't want to do that anymore!"
Jacob did really good with the carving and the pumpkin looked great. Since this was our first carved pumpkin, after it was finished we placed it in the entry and started to work on bath, bed, and preparations for school the next day. I didn't snap any pictures, thinking I would have time later. After a few days, while Brenna was at school I picked up my camera to take some shots only to discover "Yuck!" Apparently painted pumpkins can last for months (last year ours did) but carved pumpkins are only good for a day or two and then some really yucky stuff happens! So after Brenna got home from school that day, I snapped her picture next to our faded pumpkin and then we disposed of it!
For our second attempt, I was better prepared. Brenna picked another pattern and Jacob carved pumpkin #2 yesterday. I've found the perfect spot for him to make sure he lasts until Halloween night!
