Brenna is no stranger to school work, since she's been attending "McAlister Academy" for the last few years. She's also had some exposure to a classroom environment thanks to Sunday School, Children's Bible Study, and VBS. But, I still had my concerns that first day. Luckily, she had some friends there that she already knew and we had visited her classroom a couple of times already so she would be familiar with it. Jacob came along with us for the first big day. As we tucked her backpack into her cubby, she looked around to spot her friends. She skipped into the classroom to play with her friends and that was the end of my concerns. We had to break her away just to get a quick kiss and a hug. There were no tears, no soppy goodbyes. Just two heart heavy parents and one happy little girl who was excited to be at school.
That was 3 weeks ago and she's still going strong. She's made new friends and comes home everyday ready to share some interesting stories. I, on the other hand, am still getting adjusted to our new schedule. In the past, we've been total flexible, taking on activities and playdates as they came along. We stayed busy, but it was always on our time. Suddenly, we are more scheduled than we've ever been before.
Brenna wasn't the only one who embarked on something new that week. I was asked to teach the Noah's Ark Rainbow Club for preschoolers on Wednesday nights at our church. It's sorta like Girl/Boy Scouts for Christian preschoolers. We have uniforms (shirts and vests) and with each new Bible Lesson they learn they earn a badge for their vest. Of course, Brenna is a member of Rainbow Club also. One the first night, after we got everyone settled and ready to start, Brenna tapped me on the shoulder and said "Mama, you forgot something! You forgot to leave! You need to go to 'big church'!"
So, between gymnastic classes, school, Rainbow Club, and Brenna's very busy social calendar of playdates, we're warming up to our new pace of life.
